The U.S. military consists of five services — the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps, the Air Force and the Coast Guard, with 1.43 million active-duty personnel. However, since 1996, the United States Government has been deporting legal permanent-resident veterans even after they complete their time in service.
These veterans find themselves in the deportation proceedings after being convicted of certain crimes — including non-violent ones — that render immigrants deportable under U.S. immigration law, however shouldn’t those who serve be granted naturalization?
